We are all very fortunate to live in an area that is passionate about supporting local businesses and nurturing homegrown artists. This is a region that is proud of the small-town character of our area, where one-of-a-kind businesses are an integral part of our distinctive character. However, too often we forget that the survival of our favorite local businesses depends upon our patronage. It is easy for anyone to get so consumed by efficiency to forget how much of our lives we spend eating out, shopping, and doing other business. So why not do all of that locally?
One of the great things about living in an area with so many local shopping options is that we can be even more thoughtful about our consumerism and maximize the local impact the dollars we spend have on our local community. As you will read in our December Issue, there are a variety of very good reasons to shop local, but here are a few that I find the most compelling:
- Maintaining Community Character
- Local Economic Stimulus
- Local Job Creation
- Better Consumer Choices
- Better Customer Service
- More Support for Community Organizations
- It’s Good for the Environment
